Week 5: 52 sketch challenge

Welcome to another week! Hope you're all still participating, and if you're not.. you should! hehe
So this was another fun sketch using 4 pictures! Another great thing about this challenge..layouts with more then one or two pictures! Anyway, lets get started.

Here is the sketch:

This is from a box kit from Colorbok called Plum Passion.
To make the circle, because I didn't have a die cut piece or circle cutter.. I had to take a plate and trace and cut it and use a 1 inch circle punch to add the scallop look to the circle. After that was done I made the picture strip. The 3 photos on the left. I just cut that out of another piece of cardstock and fit it to the size of the pictures. I then cut another piece of cardstock that had stripes and put that near the bottom. I then used two prima flowers. They are material. I layered them and added a metal flower I picked up at the dollar store. I then added my title. I didn't add any journaling as it will follow my other layouts for my graduation that already has the information and people on it.

Hope you try it out!

Betty Boop TH Swivel Clasp Charm

I made this Tim Holtz Swivel Clasp charm with my sister.  I started it for her as a gift for christmas but never had a chance to finish it. While she was here Jan 15th, I decided to show her and ask her to finish the bead charms to add to it. Instead of keeping it red and white like the charm at the top of the picture, she decided to add purple and green charms to it as well. I added two Fragment Charms. One with an M for Melanie (my sister's name) and a betty boop logo.

Please visit my youtube channel for a video and close look at the charm

Week 3 : 52 week challenge

Here is week 3 of my 52 week challenge.
This week used 3 photos. This was a bit of a challenge for me and had to alter  the sketch a little to fit my pictures but that's the fun in this. After you get a sketch, even moving it clockwise will give you a totally new layout. Although, I didn't do it with this one, I just had to move the flowers a bit to fit the pictures instead of cropping them some more.   I used cosmo cricket as the background and used K & Company wildsafron for most of the layout. Super cute and fun! Glad I made it and happy with the way it turned out. (no detailed pics this week)

Paper Picture Frame

So, as I was watching scrapbooking videos on youtube, I decided to check out an old subcription. Doratouch.  She had a video about a paper picture frame using a double sided 12x12 paper.  So I quickly found a 12x12 paper and made one along with her tutorial. Was so easy and quick to do that I decided to find a picture and use it in a 12x12 layout. Perfect on it's own but I decided to scrapbook it.

Here is what the frame looks like alone with two colors.

Here is my original one in my layout.

WEEK 2 : 52 sketch challenge

Week 2 : 52 Sketch Challenge

For This Layout I decided to play with my new paper pack. Recollections All Girl.
This paper has such fun colors and icons. Definitely should pick it up!lol

My main "challenge" for this layout was the swirl. I didn't have any die cuts already made or have any sizzix dies and didn't want to use my cricut for one detail.  I then remembered that the bling I use from the dollar store, I alter. There aren't many to chose from and since it's only 1$, I cut them and alter the swirls. This way, you're not only limited to one design.

In this layout, I chose this flower corner piece and cut the swirls to make the design horizontal. I placed it back the same, just made it straight. Easy to do.

Next, I used a 1 inch circle punch to add to the long strip. I cut it out of purple cardstock.

I then added this pearl trim instead of rhinestones or single pearls.

My Mind's Eye Title from the laundry line.

Finished product.

WEEK 1 : 52 sketch challenge

Hi! Welcome to my challenge! This is week one in my 52 week 52 sketch challenge. For 2011, I want to try and get more 12x12 layouts done.  In 2010, I got introduced to a new world of scrapbooking. Sure inking, stamping and distressing were out there for a long time. I on the other hand had no idea.  I was a basic scrapbooker. So in 2010, I started watching youtube videos and got inspired to try all sorts of new techniques and start making mini albums. They're fun to do and I won't stop making them. For 2011, I decided to put it aside one day out of the week, every week for a year and get some layouts done. 52 sketches in 52 weeks sounds hard but that's why it's called a challenge.  The layout is already planned out  so that makes it easy and having 52 different sketches will make your album look that much more interesting.  Trust me, I got 52 more for next year! (If all goes good this year)

So here's week 1!

Ok so first thing Is I chose a picture. I knew the sketch asked for one so I chose it and chose paper that would coordinate together. I chose a shade of blue to match the shirt in the photo. Then looked in My Minds Eye All About Boys paper pack and chose papers that coordinated together as well.

Since there are 3 layers of background paper, I chose to take a blue glitter polka dot for the back page.  I then cut a brown page 11x11 and another blue paper at 10x10. That way it would create the layers like in the sketch. NOTICE there are no measurements in the sketch. Make it fit to your liking. If you prefer half inch borders or 2 inch borders,do it! make it so it's eye catching to you.
I then distressed the edges with Tim Holtz distressing tool and inked up the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. I also inked lightly around the edges of the photo. Not on the photo but on the sides to hide the white.

Instead of the bubbly strip  across the page, I used this circle design ribbon.  Don't have to go out and buy something to finish a layout. Use what you have, especially for a detail like this.
I didn't have a big scallop punch or scissors but I had this mini scallop one so I used that on the paper piece next to the photo. If I didn't have these, I would have used another deco scissor or punch. again, use what you got.

After pulling out all those papers that I still liked for this layout, I still used them. The layout called for 5 small circles. I then took my 1 inch circle punch and punched one circle from the remaining page. I then inked the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.
I then added my title and Journaling with bling around it (like the layout) and Voila! Challenge one completed.
Journaling: I decided to have it typed out. I went on google and typed Nephew quotes and this popped up and had to use it. When I was in my teenage years (rough years) I thought of my nephew and wanted him to be proud of me. He kept me going. ( yes I was 12 when I became an aunty : D)
"Nephew
You are a connection to life,
A Tie to the past,
A road to the future,
The key to sanity in a totally insane world."

Hope you like it and join me next week for another layout challenge.
