Hi! Welcome to my challenge! This is week one in my 52 week 52 sketch challenge. For 2011, I want to try and get more 12x12 layouts done. In 2010, I got introduced to a new world of scrapbooking. Sure inking, stamping and distressing were out there for a long time. I on the other hand had no idea. I was a basic scrapbooker. So in 2010, I started watching youtube videos and got inspired to try all sorts of new techniques and start making mini albums. They're fun to do and I won't stop making them. For 2011, I decided to put it aside one day out of the week, every week for a year and get some layouts done. 52 sketches in 52 weeks sounds hard but that's why it's called a challenge. The layout is already planned out so that makes it easy and having 52 different sketches will make your album look that much more interesting. Trust me, I got 52 more for next year! (If all goes good this year)
So here's week 1!
Ok so first thing Is I chose a picture. I knew the sketch asked for one so I chose it and chose paper that would coordinate together. I chose a shade of blue to match the shirt in the photo. Then looked in My Minds Eye All About Boys paper pack and chose papers that coordinated together as well.
Since there are 3 layers of background paper, I chose to take a blue glitter polka dot for the back page. I then cut a brown page 11x11 and another blue paper at 10x10. That way it would create the layers like in the sketch. NOTICE there are no measurements in the sketch. Make it fit to your liking. If you prefer half inch borders or 2 inch borders,do it! make it so it's eye catching to you.
I then distressed the edges with Tim Holtz distressing tool and inked up the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. I also inked lightly around the edges of the photo. Not on the photo but on the sides to hide the white.
Instead of the bubbly strip across the page, I used this circle design ribbon. Don't have to go out and buy something to finish a layout. Use what you have, especially for a detail like this.
I didn't have a big scallop punch or scissors but I had this mini scallop one so I used that on the paper piece next to the photo. If I didn't have these, I would have used another deco scissor or punch. again, use what you got.
After pulling out all those papers that I still liked for this layout, I still used them. The layout called for 5 small circles. I then took my 1 inch circle punch and punched one circle from the remaining page. I then inked the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.
I then added my title and Journaling with bling around it (like the layout) and Voila! Challenge one completed.
Journaling: I decided to have it typed out. I went on google and typed Nephew quotes and this popped up and had to use it. When I was in my teenage years (rough years) I thought of my nephew and wanted him to be proud of me. He kept me going. ( yes I was 12 when I became an aunty : D)
"Nephew
You are a connection to life,
A Tie to the past,
A road to the future,
The key to sanity in a totally insane world."
Hope you like it and join me next week for another layout challenge.
